Walter Trout In Concert (Ohne Filter)

The Rock-oriented Blues of Walter Trout are shown off here
to good effect in his Ohne Filter concert appearance from June 29th,
1993. For the great German music
concert show, Trout returned after being a backing musician is a previous show
and delivers one of the best shows we’ve seen to date. The songs include:
1) I Can
Tell
2) Take
Care Of Your Business
3) Life In
The Jungle
4) Frederica
(I Don’t Need You)
5) Running
Blues
6) Finally
Gotten Over You
7) Victor
The Cajun
8) Prisoner
Of A Dream
Not being the biggest Blues fan and considering real Rock
music (the genre before it was watered down, sanded down and sold out) the
logical continuation of Blues, this concert is one of the best examples of that
on DVD to date, and we watch plenty of concert DVDs. Plenty! Trout is the real
thing, playing his heart out and having as much edge as guitarists half his
age. This is the kind of guitar-based
Rock that made Rock great before the shift went to keyboards (i.e., Pat
Benatar). The show is only about an
hour, but it delivers so well, that I wished it would not end, the ultimate
sign of great music. This Ohne
Filter delivers.
The full
frame PAL color video is what one would expect for a recent taping, good color
and limited definition, while the sound is available in 16bit/48kHz PCM CD-type
Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 AC-3, which are about even in this case and
neither are what one would hope. There
is not the depth in the 5.1 here heard in the Mark King and Tony Joe White DVDs
from the series, reviewed elsewhere on this site. It is especially sad considering how good the concert is that the
sound is on the veiled side. Too bad
this one was not in DTS. Besides
repeating the same stereo cords plug, other DVDs in the series, and Ohne Filter producer interview, it has
a biography of Trout. Good show!
