MVD Rewind pulls out all the stops with this newly enhanced version of the Bigfoot thriller Abominable (2006), which makes its HD debut for the first time here. Complete with a new 2K remaster from the original 35mm camera negative and enhanced CGI effects, the film has never looked or sounded this good before.

Abominable stars Matt McCoy, Haley Joel, Jeffrey Combs, Paul Geason, Karin Anna Cheung, Tiffany Shepis, Lance Henriksen, and Dee Wallace.

A paraplegic Preston Rogers (McCoy) moves back to the remote cabin where his now deceased wife once lived. It doesn't take long for his new neighbor to get attacked by the infamous Bigfoot creature. When nobody else believes Rogers, he devises his own place to go up against the mythical creature as it goes on a killing spree.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and an English DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix and LPCM 2.0 Stereo track, the film looks much improved on Blu-ray than it does on the also included standard definition DVD with similar but more compressed specs. The film has also been color corrected and enhanced, which adds to the experience.

The Endless (2017) is a slow burn in the same way that Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is in that isn't quite as kinetic as its trailer suggests. Directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (SPRING), the film centers around two brothers who escape a strange death cult.. only to go back again several years later after discovering a message. When they return to the group, they quickly find out that some supernatural activity is going on... and that the cult leader may be on to something... apocalyptic.

The Endless stars Callie Hernandez, Tate Ellington, James Jordan, Lew Temple, and Emily Montague.

Presented in 1080p high definition on Blu-ray disc with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a nice sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track, both of which are up to standards for the format. The film is nicely produced and has good production value with natural tones and nothing too stylized about the color.

A winner at several film festivals, The Endless has some interesting moments but ultimately could have had some stronger acting and a well known face or two in the cast. It gets a little melodramatic at times and feels a bit long but I enjoyed the overall concept.

Wes Craven's 1972 cult favorite The Last House on the Left finally gets a fantastic Blu-ray presentation that it deserves, much like Craven's The Hills Have Eyes (which is also available from Arrow in a similar edition and reviewed elsewhere on this site). While the film is still hardcore and disturbing to this day, it will always hold a special place in horror cinema history as one of the most controversial films ever made.

Last House stars Sandra Peabody, Lucy Grantham, David Hess, Fred J. Lincoln, Jeramie Rain, and Marc Sheffler to name a few.

The film, modern when it was made in 1972, follows two teenagers who are on their way to a rock concert but instead get kidnapped by a wild group of convicts. After they are raped and tortured, despite putting up quite a fight, they are driven to the woods... however an unusual twist happens when the parents of the girls come into the fold and let's just say the convicts get more than they bargained for when the tables turn.

This new 1080p high definition edition features three cuts of the film newly restored in 2K from original film elements with an original Uncompressed Mono Audio track. Presented in its original widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 this is a vast improvement over the previously released Blu-ray edition of the film that was practically bare bones in the U.S. market.

Another great edition of Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator (1985) has surfaced from the great new restoration showing up in video markets. This time, it is an Umbrella Entertainment Region B Import Blu-ray Set edition they are using to launch their new Beyond Genres series (the two sequels to this film are next in that series, which we'll cover next). For those unfamiliar with the darkly comic post-modern take on many things Frankenstein, et al, you can read about the film in these informative past releases this new set outperforms...

The 1080p 1.85 X 1 digital High Definition image transfer can show the age of the materials used a little bit, but this is far superior a transfer to all previous releases of the film including in its superior delivery of color the film relies on. The sound has been upgraded to a DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix, but the aged source and sound stems show. It is a nice upgrade attempt, meaning this is likely the best this will ever sound.

Extras include two feature length audio commentary track (one with director Gordon and the other with cast members Abbott, Combs, Crampton and Sampson), 16 Extended Scenes, a Deleted Scene and Re-Animator Resurrection documentary on the first Blu-ray with the film Uncut. Then Blu-ray 2 adds composer Richard Brand analyzing the film, five on-camera interviews with cast and crew (Gordon, Brand, Producer Brian Yunza, Writer Denis Paoli and Horror Film scholar Tony Timpone (former editor of Fangoria Magazine)), TV spots and the Original Theatrical Trailer.

Yes, it is missing some extras from other editions, but that's still most of them. Nice cover art work too.

Steven Soderbergh is an interesting filmmaker with a wide range of films in his resume. His newest film, Unsane (2018), was infamously shot using iPhones... which makes it an interesting choice for the 2160p 4K UHD format. Of course they weren't just pointing and shooting the iPhones like a normal person would.. the film is beautifully lit and extensively color corrected... however, it is an interesting experiment from a filmmaking perspective.

Aside from its unique filmmaking choices, the film is actually pretty good and has a lot of great moments and performances all around. Claire Foy (The Crown) is very convincing in her role here and is able to constantly keep you questioning. Part One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and a touch Hitchcockian in tone, Unsane is definitely worth checking out.

Unsane also stars Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins, Amy Irving, Joshua Leonard and an uncredited cameo performance by Matt Damon.

Emotionally scarred from a stalker from her past, Sawyer (Foy) still sees him everywhere.. though she believes that it's all in her head. Away from home in a strange city, she goes to see a psychiatrist and finds herself checked in to a mental institution. Combating her own sanity, the blurred line between Sawyer's reality and imagination begin to blur as she loses her mind when she sees that her former stalker is now a worker at the mental institution. Lashing out on fellow patients, Sawyer feels that she is in the right and wrongfully committed but her actions speak otherwise...

Unsane is presented in 2160p HEVC/H.265, HDR (10; Ultra HD Premium)-enhanced Ultra High Definition image in an odd aspect ratio of 1.58:1 and paired with a DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix. The transfer is very colorful and detailed, with more pronounced than the also included 1080p Blu-ray disc. On the 4K UHD, the skin textures are impeccable with every tiny detail coming through (especially with HDR). Also included is a digital copy in both sets editions we are covering here. That leaves the anamorphically enhanced DVD edition that is rather weak and the softness is annoying. The lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 is also weak, but not as poor.

The only Special Feature is the Unsanity featurette.
