In
Tamako
Love Story
(2014; a feature film version if the series), Tamako and Ooji have
been childhood friends and the boy/girl next door (OK, across the
street from each other). Both their families own Mochi shops and
their fathers have been rivals since forever. To their friends, they
have always known Tamako and Ooji are destined to be a couple and
they all secretly (and silently) cheering them on, but Ooji is
planning to go to Tokyo but he has plans confess to Tamako before he
leaves... Will Tamako and Ooji find each other before go off to
college?
From
the creator of K-On, this was a sappy romance anime movie. It
was your typical boy/girl next door we all dream of growing up and
marrying one day. This version is not bad at 83 minutes.
The
1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image on the Blu-ray looks
good as it should for a recent production, even of the animation is
only on the standard side, but that's the narrative. The
anamorphically enhanced DVD is softer and robs the presentation of
some of its better color. The lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0
Stereo mixes on the Blu-ray are fine and warm enough for a recent
recording, here in English and better Japanese language choices,
mirrored in the weaker, lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo on the DVD,
but this is very dialogue-driven, so only expect so much. Extras
include clean closing and opening animations, Japanese Promo,
Dera-chan of Southern Island and trailers.
