star in James Grey's The
Lost City of Z
(2016), an Amazon Studios production with an impressively cinematic
feel and big budget that tells a true story. While a bit slowly
paced, the film sets out what it wanted to do in telling the story of
a young man in the early 1900s to whom was willing to leave his
family behind to explore the unknown jungle. Spanning several
continents, the film is interesting enough and not without some
moments of action, though tends to be a bit predictable at points.
If you're a fan of jungle expeditions or period pieces set in the
'20s then you won't want to miss this film!
The
Lost City of Z
also stars Tom Holland, Sienna Miller, Angus Macfadyen, and Daniel
Huttlestone.
British
explorer Col. Percival Fawcett (Hunan), is a man who is dedicated on
making his mark on the world. While his wife (Miller) is left to
raise their two young children, Fawcett is hired to go on a unique
2-year=long jungle expedition in the Amazons and along the way makes
a startling discovery of an ancient tribe. When they return to
civilization, their discovery is met with mixed reactions, so Fawcett
and his team decide to go back, this time in hopes of finding a
fabled lost city linked to what they saw the first time around.
However, some discoveries, end up being worth dying for.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen transfer of 2.40:1 and a
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the film looks and
sounds up to Blu-ray standards with a stunning (though yellow-tinted)
image throughout, making the film almost feel like it's jumped from a
storybook. Some darker moments have a little bit of motion blur and
noise but the epic lenses used capture the film nicely on disc and
the soundtrack is slow moving and similar to something you would hear
in a Tom Ford movie.
