Woody
Harrelson gives a great performance in Wilson (2017), an
offbeat comedy/drama about a neurotic middle aged man who can't quite
find his place in today's fast moving society. At times dismal and
other times emotional, Wilson is similar to Something's
Gotta Give (2003) as that the main character's dismal outlook on
life makes him somewhat charming as well.
The
film also stars Judy Greer, Laura Dern, Cheryl Hines, and David
Warshofsky, is directed by Craig Johnson (The Skeleton Twins)
and based on a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes.
Wilson
(Harrelson) isn't very well liked by many (except his dog) and once
his father passes away, finds that he has no family left. When he
tracks down his ex-wife (Dern) and reconnects with her, he finds out
that he has a teenage daughter (Amara) who doesn't quite fit in as
well. Desperate to pick up the pieces of his life that he left
behind and start anew, Wilson soon realizes that once you burn a
bridge it's not always easy to rebuild.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and
a nice sounding English DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track,
Wilson looks and sounds great on Blu-ray disc with bright and
natural colors, yet nothing too crazy in terms of visual style or
color correction. There is some nice detail on characters and skin
tones pretty easy throughout.
A
standard definition DVD of the film is also included with an
anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a lossy Dolby
Digital 5.1 track that is fine for the format.
A
digital UV copy is also included.

Wilson
is an offbeat indie film that isn't completely original but odd
enough that it could actually happen in real life... and probably
has.
