Many
people visit... few ever leave... the MADHOUSE!
A
member of the video nasties library and banned for several years,
Ovidio Assonitis' Madhouse
(1981) is now getting the deluxe Blu-ray treatment from Arrow in this
must-see release for fans of slasher cinema. Twisted, disturbing,
and brutal this is definitely a fierce film and is on par with that
of a Dario Argento film and other Italian horror films of the time.
Madhouse
stars Trish Everly, Michael MacRae, Allison Biggers, Morgan Hart,
Edith Ivey and Dennis Robertson.
Julia
(Everly) has an evil twin sister named Mary and both went through a
dramatic incident that happened during their childhood. Now both
adults, Mary is admitted to a hospital with a crippling illness
leaving much of her body terribly disfigured. When Julia goes to
visit her in the hospital, Mary vows to give her a very morbid
surprise for her birthday this year... one that she will never
forget. Soon, every person in Julia's life is at stake as Mary and
her vicious hound count down the days and hours to Julia's
birthday... where the true horror awaits.
Presented
in a brand new 2K HD restoration from the original 35mm camera
negative and a 1080p widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, the film
looks stunning on Blu-ray disc and definitely a vast improvement over
previous releases. Paired with an uncompressed PCM 2.0 Stereo audio
track on the Blu-ray disc, the overall presentation is solid with
dark blacks and bright colors for exterior shots. Also included is a
standard definition DVD copy of the film with an anamorphic
widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and an original (yet compressed)
stereo track.
