Voodoo Black Exorcist (1974/Film Detective Blu-ray)

Picture: B Sound: B- Extras: D Film: C+

The Film Detective continues to find rare antiquities with their latest release of the (unintentionally?) campy 1974 flick Voodoo Black Exorcist, which is a long forgotten psychedelic mummy movie directed by Manuel Cano. Effectively, the film is something that you would expect to see at a theater circa the 1970s 31st Street in New York City or in a Grindhouse theater.

The film stars Aldo Sambrell and Tanya Stadler for starters amongst many unknowns.

The mummy of long dormant, but powerful Caribbean voodoo priest named Gatanebo gets revived on a luxury South Seas ocean liner, posing a threat to the passengers. As with every mummy story, amidst his murderous act he finds Sylvia, who reminds him of his love from a previous life and to whom he seeks to resurrect. The opening of the film is interestingly shot in an exotic location and there's plenty of skin and gore to please cult film lovers (...like myself).

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (scope format unknown) and a DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Mono lossless track, there's no doubt that this is the best that this film has ever looked and considering its low budget. The fact that is in the public domain and its source not too fantastic, it's a pretty impressive restoration under the circumstances.

No extras.
