Vixen: The Movie (2017/DC Comics Animation/Warner Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: B Film: B

For all fans of DC and specifically the DC live action shows that air on The CW, you will definitely want to check out this first animated tie-in movie, Vixen: The Movie (2017) - which (as you can see below) features several big names from those CW series and introduces a lesser known character admits many recognizable ones. They include Megalyn Echikunwoke (CSI: Miami, The 4400, Damien) as the voice of Vixen/Mari McCabe. She is joined by the voices of Stephen Amell (Arrow), Grant Gustin (The Flash), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak on Arrow), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Katie Cassidy (Black Canary), Victor Garber (Martin Stein) & Franz Drahmeh (Jax) collectively as Firestorm, and Brandon Routh (The Atom), reprising their roles from The CW's Arrow, The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, respectively.

In the spotlight is superhero Mari McCabe - who has the unique ability of channeling the strengths of animals thanks to an ancient necklace that she was given from her birthmother. When she channels the necklace (either by touch or inner being while wearing it) she can run as fast as a cheetah, fight like a rhino, and fly like a eagle for example, which makes her a force to be reckoned with during a fight!

She can also telepathically speak to wild animals as well, much to the surprise of her Foster Parent Dad who is often the comic relief (the Aunt May to her Spider-man). Joined by The Arrow and The Flash amongst others, this animated film tells the origin story of Vixen - a character who (due to budgetary restraints of the shows, I'm sure) is done justice in animated form and the telling of her transformation from hopeful fashion designer nobody, to a super charged super hero is satisfactory. Along the way, she much battle her evil sister who wants possession of the necklace and others who threaten to use mystical powers against her.

Presented in crisp 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a nice sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track, the animation looks great (and is much in the same vein as the '90s Batman: The Animated Series) and is sure to please fans. There is close attention to detail in the animation, while giving it an contrasty look as well that reads very high budget.

A digital UV copy is also included.

If you're a fan of the CW and DC Comics television shows, then you will definitely want to check this worthwhile animated film out. Hopefully, we will see this character on the silver screen one day in live action!
