Shane
Dax Taylor brings a story to life that is inspired by true events,
Isolation (2015) is the story of a couple who end up taking a
trip to the Bahamas in an attempt to salvage their relationship but
in turn end up facing off a group of vicious pirates. Led by the
underrated actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don't Breathe),
the film also stars Dominic Purcell, Luke Malby, Claudia Church, and
Marie Avgeropoulos.
Similar
to other films in the same vein such as The Perfect Getaway,
the film centers around an idealized vacation that seems all too
romantic and perfect until it turns bad when the pirates get
involved. The couple is forced to deal with more than just their
personal problems when they find their hotel broken into, their
passports stolen, and their lives threatened. Most of the
performances are truthfully a bit one note, even the strongest actor
Stephen Lang ends up being the 'typical bad guy' that he always
plays. The cinematography and filmmaking isn't anything too special,
either, ultimately creating a film that doesn't necessarily need to
be revisited again.
Isolation
is presented in standard definition on DVD with a widescreen aspect
ratio of 2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, which is the
norm for the format. Some detail is lost in some of the film's more
exotic locations, a trait that would definitely be improved in high
definition.
The
only special feature is previews for other Lionsgate releases.
