Now
for two comedies, one that fails, the other that does not...
Mad
Families
Charlie
Sheen leads a cast with some familiar faces (Leah Remini, Naya
Rivera, Charlotte McKinney, Efren Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon
Dynamite), (Ron Howard's brother) Clint Howard and others in Mad
Families (2017), a film on par with something you would see as a
TV movie but with R-rated humor and a script so corny that at times
the dialogue is almost unbearable. The film was on Crackle streaming
service and is by the Director of Joe Dirt and The House
Bunny Fred Wolf, so you
can get an idea of what the humor is like.
Aiming
to be some sort of National Lampoon's Vacation-type family
comedy, the film centers around several families from drastically
different backgrounds who end up at the same camping site at the same
time on the Fourth of July.
All
of them were somehow booked the same camping spot and are all too
selfish and stubborn to retreat the area and but a nix on their
Holiday plans. ( The Kids would be disappointed.) In an effort to
settle their differences, the unlikely cast of characters split up
into teams in competition for who gets to keep the camping space.
Along the way, relentless man bashing, more race jokes then you
thought conceivable, unfunny curse word combinations and Charlie
Sheen struggles to be funny. This is one camping trip that I
wouldn't suggest you go on.
Presented
in standard definition with a 1.77:1 widescreen aspect ratio and a
lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital track, the presentation is fine for the
format but nothing impressive. The night scenes in the film lose a
bit of definition and denial notable and overall the detail on
characters is lacking. Obviously shot on the digital format, the
film looks about on par with a digital television broadcast.
No
Extras.
Silicon
Valley: The Complete Third Season
From
legendary filmmaker Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis and
Butthead) and HBO comes the Third Season of the hit new
show Silicon Valley. The show continues its focus on a group
of computer super geniuses, led by Richard (Thomas Middleditch) who
strikes it rich with an amazing computer algorithm, the motley crew
dig and claw their way to the top at Silicon Valley, where internet's
most notable websites dwell. The show is cleverly written, strongly
performed, and better than most TV comedies I've seen in recent
years.
The
show stars Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Zach Woods, Kumail
Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer, Jimmy
O. Yang, and many others.
The
ten episode season spans two Blu-ray discs and includes Founder
Friendly, Two in the Box, Meinertzhagen's Haversack, Maleant Data
System Solutions, The Empty Chair, Bachmanity Insanity, To Build A
Better Data, Bachman's Earning Over-Ride, Daily Active Users, and
The Uptick.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
a lossless English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, the show looks and
sounds fantastic on Blu-ray disc besting its original television
broadcast and any streaming service. For fans that like extra detail
and nice preservation of their favorite shows, this will get the most
out of your home HD setup. The look of the show is very clean and
detailed and is filmed and executed impressively.

If
you don't have HBO, then I would suggest picking up this series if
you're a fan of Mike Judge's offbeat humor.
