HBO's
political satire Veep returns for a fifth season that gives us
the behind the scenes antics of Vice President Selina Meyers (Julia
Louis-Dreyfus) who is a Vice President fighting for the top spot of
President of the United States and is constantly at odds with her
co-workers behind the scenes of the White House. Throughout her
quest to appear as a strong leader, Selina hits constant road bumps
along the way.
Veep
also stars Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, and
Timothy Simons.
Ten
episodes make up Season 5 which include Morning After,
Nev-AD-a, The Eagle, Mother, Thanksgiving, C-tgate, Congressional
Ball, Camp David, Kissing Your Sister, and Inauguration.
The
show has some funny moments, but ultimately feels like constant
bickering between characters, none of which are really like-able
despite a few familiar faces. The production value and performances
are all fine but this show seems to be geared towards more
politically minded people, one thing this reviewer is not. Maybe too
much of real life politics and the long run of the show doesn't help,
despite all the talent involved, but this is the kind of show to
start from the beginning, like House Of Cards.
Improving
upon the original digital HD broadcast, the 1080p high definition
Blu-ray transfer features a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a
nice sounding English DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track -
both of which are up to HBO's high standards. Character details are
spot on and the color palettes are natural and slightly desaturated.
