Usually
when a movie starts out with a Mime joke, it's not a good sign of
what is to follow. Such is the case for the mean spirited lackluster
cop comedy War
on Everyone
(2016). While it has an impressive cast in Alexander Skarsgard (The
Legend of Tarzan),
Michael Pena (who really needs to stop being the bumbling Cop in
every movie), Theo James (Underworld:
Awakening),
Tessa Thompson (Selma),
and even Paul Riser (Aliens,
TV's Mad
About You)
shows up. Director John Michael McDonaugh (Calvary)
succeeds in making a decent looking film but ultimately it falls
short of being ninety minutes of overstuffed rubbish.
In
New Mexico, Terry (Skarsgard) and Bob (Pena) are two nicely dressed
and handsome crooked cops who frame and blackmail criminals all over
town in an attempt of hide their disgust for their careers. Looking
for the ultimate pay-off, they try to extort a strip-club manager
(Caleb Landry Jones) and his junkie boss (James), but become
entangled in more corruption putting their jobs and their lives on
the line.
The
presentation on the disc by Lionsgate is fine and plays well with a
1080p high definition transfer and a widescreen aspect ratio of
2.39:1 paired with a lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track that
is full of detail and rich colors from dark tan and yellows for the
New Mexico scenes, where most of the first quarter of the film takes
place.
Also
included is the standard definition DVD of the film with an
anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a lossy Dolby
Digital 5.1 track that lacks the detail of the Blu-ray with some
colors appearing more washed out.
