Youth
In Oregon (2016/Orion/MGM/Sony DVD)
Picture:

Featuring
a strong cast including Frank Langella, Billy Crudup, Christina
Applegate, Nicola Peltz, Mary Kay Place, and Josh Lucas is director
Joel David Moore's Youth In Oregon (2016). The film reminds
me a little bit of Little Miss Sunshine in some regards, only
more dramatic and a bit more dismal. As far as classifying the film,
it's both road trip movie and family drama.
Frank
Langella plays Raymond Engersol, an old soul who announces at his
80th Birthday Dinner that he is tired of life and ready to be
euthanized in Oregon. Desperate to convince him that his life is
worth living, his son-in-law Brian Gleason (Crudup) and close family
drive him across country on a journey of self discovery.
Presented
in standard definition DVD with an anamorphic aspect ratio of 2.40:1
and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds up to
standards with the older format. A film of this nature could benefit
from Blu-ray as it is a road trip-type movie with lots of nice shots
and locations, but this version is acceptable.
No
extras whatsoever - not even previews for other attractions.
While
not necessarily bad, Youth In Oregon is a predictable family
drama/comedy that has some nice performances but ultimately is a bit
predictable.
