A
must watch for Star
Trek
fans, For
The Love Of Spock
(2016) is a detailed documentary is not only a look at one of TV's
most iconic actors, Leonard Nimoy, and a peak into his life and
diverse acting career but a look at the character of Spock himself.
Directed by Adam Nimoy, Leonard's son, this loving tribute to the pop
culture icon features archival clips and interviews, family movies
and photographs, and extensive clips from the Trek
movies and shows, this is the ultimate look behind the man who was,
and to whom forever will be - Spock.
Also
narrated by Adam Nimoy and featuring interviews with William Shatner,
J.J. Abrams, and much of the new Star
Trek
movie cast (Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg to
name a few), but other fellow Trekkies in the Entertainment biz like
Jason Alexander (Seinfeld),
the creator of The
Big Bang Theory
(which had a cameo of Nimoy in an episode), Scientist Neil deGrasse
Tyson, and not so famous faces as well. The doc also explores the
impact on the series and of the Spock character on fans and sci-fi
fandom in general. However, times weren't always easy for the famous
actor, as he often struggled with his fame, the cancellation of the
Star
Trek
series, raising a family, and being constantly committed to his
craft. In short, this is a thorough and well structured documentary
and impressive editing - a fantastic film.
Presented
in standard definition the aspect ratio varies between a full frame
1:33:1 aspect ratio and a 1.77:1 widescreen aspect ratio for the
interview segments and other cinematic elements in the film, but
within a 16 X 9 frame throughout. Fine for the DVD format, the
presentation is as good as to be expected and could be improved in
high definition, which we'll try to take a look at soon on Blu-ray.
