The Eyes Of My Mother (2016/Magnet/Magnolia Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C+ Film: B

Disturbing and well crafted, The Eyes of My Mother (2016) is the debut film from Nicolas Pesce and is an effective black and white thriller that I would recommend to fans of films like The VVItch, Psycho, or Lars Von Trier films as it captures a similar dark tone. This is a serial killer unlike any that you've seen before and is startlingly realistic with solid special effects and performances.

Told through the eyes of a little girl named Francisca, the film centers around a Mother and Daughter who get an unexpected visitor at their front door one day that savagely murders the Mother. Instead of reacting in panic and fright like most children would, Francisca has a profound background in anatomy and has become unfazed by death. As the girl blossoms into a woman, her bond with her late Mother remains strong as she becomes a dark force that you don't want to mess with... her only weakness being her own loneliness.

The film stars Diana Agostini, Olivia Bond, Will Brill, Joey Curtis-Green, and Flora Diaz.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1, the black and white presentation of the film is sharp and consistent throughout with crushed blacks and equally balanced whites and grays. The sound mix is effective with a lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix in English and Portuguese that has clean dialogue throughout and an ominous and disturbing score. The foreign language bits are accompanied by English Subtitles. No digital copy.
