Paul
M. McAlarney's low budget satire Honky
Holocaust (2014)
has all of the ingredients that you would expect from a Troma
production: nudity, extreme violence, and touchy satirical
commentary. It also isn't very tasteful and at times is a bit too
silly to be taken seriously not to mention highly racist. The
special effects and acting are bad on purpose, after all, this wasn't
created to win Academy Awards. When you take it for what it is,
Honky Holocaust
is a silly no budget exploitation film that can safely find its place
amongst other Troma films... and it succeeds at being that.
In
the movie world of Honky
Holocaust, the
Manson Family succeeds in igniting the apocalyptic race war and
attempt to claim their 'rightful' place as the rulers of the world.
The infamous cult instead finds that the outcome of Helter Skelter is
drastically different than was prophesied and are forced to confront
everything that they believe in.
The
film stars Maria Natapov, Lucas Fleming, and LaNecia Edmonds to name
a few.
The
presentation on the disc is nothing to write home about in passable
1080p high definition and a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The
sound mixing in the film isn't so hot with a LPCM 2.0 track and a
musical score that at time overbears the dialogue. Understandable
due to the film's low budget, the mix isn't overall pretty basic with
no real memorable moments of sound design. Was there any reason to
put this low budget film on Blu-ray? Probably could have been okay
with a DVD release.
