Director
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Desperado) continues his
hit show From Dusk Tiil Dawn in its third season, which plays
on the El Rey network, and is now finding its way onto Blu-ray disc.
Inspired by the hit film directed by Rodriguez with a screenplay by
Quentin Tarantino, the show essentially re-imagines (without the
phony pretense we usually get with that concept) the first film in
its first season and has since expanded upon the lore, telling more
of what happens with the infamously deadly Gecko Brothers (D.J.
Cotrona, Zane Holtz) who continue their Vampire Hunting spree through
the desert wastelands.
Season
3 features a returning ensemble cast including D.J. Cotrona (G.I.
Joe: Retaliation), Zane Holtz (Holes, The Perks of
Being a Wallflower), Eiza Gonzalez, Jesse Garcia, Madison
Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, Emily Rios and Jake Busey.
New
cast joining the third season are: Ana de la Reguera (Jane the
Virgin) who will have a recurring role as Lord Venganza Verdugo,
one of the seven remaining culebra Lords; Marko Zaror (Machete
Kills) as Zolo, an Aztec warrior trained in Hell; Tom Savini (SFX
Legend/From Dusk Till Dawn) as Burt, a retired demon hunter
who smokes more medical marijuana than he sells; Maurice Compte
(Breaking Bad) as Brasa, a mysterious Rasputin-like figure who
takes on the Gecko Brothers; and Nicky Whelan (House of Lies).
10
episodes make up this season which include Head Games, La Reina,
Protect and Serve, Fanglorious, Shady Glen, Strait Jacket, La
Llorona, Rio Sangre, Matanzas, and Dark Side of the Sun.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
a great sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track (48kHz,
16-bit) the show simply looks fantastic on Blu-ray disc, vastly
improving upon the original broadcast with commercial free and uncut
episodes and no minor flaws. The show has a 'Western' like look with
saturated colors that balance out in cinematic high contrast
throughout. The show is shot to look like a movie and feels like one
too, more than a television series.

While
I would definitely watch the first two seasons before jumping into
this one (reviews are elsewhere on this site for those other
Seasons), From Dusk Tiil Dawn is more effective than True
Blood and lovingly handles the property with plenty of excitement
that will hook in Vampire fans from scene one.
