The
uplifting and family friendly Queen
of Katwe
(2016), directed by Mira Nair, is based on a true story of Phiona
Mutesi - a Ugandan Girl from an unlikely place (dealing with poverty
and other struggles every day) develops a unique talent for chess
that helps her grow in both a personal and spiritual way. We've seen
a good cycle of such films in recent years, but this one takes us
somewhere we have not been before, to it credit. The film stars
Madina Nalwanga, Lupita Nyong'o, David Oyelowo, Ntare Guma Mbaho
Mwine, and Russel Savadier.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1,
the film looks incredible on Blu-ray disc. The film is very well shot
and produced and the money is definitely on the screen as the
transfer is rich in texture and detail. The sound mix on the disc is
in DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 that is also up to standards
with the format and helps bring out Alex Heffes' buoyant orchestral
score that utilizes traditional Ugandan instruments.
