After
a skiing accident, single mother recently divorced Tony (Emmanuelle
Bercot) is left crippled and dependent on pain relievers. However,
she finds solace with Georgio, who makes her feel alive again with
wild parties and even wilder sex. While doctors heal her body, Tony
heals her heart and mind with Georgio (Vincent Cassel). For the next
10 years, she has a turbulent on/off relationship with him... however
Tony discovers the very thing she loves about Georgio may also be the
very thing that may tear them apart in Maiwenn's My King
(2015).
Tony
is an adrenaline sports junky, but after seriously injuring her knee,
she totally hates feeling like a pity case. She finds relief and
comfort in the arms of Georgio, a man she met at a bar who makes her
feel like a woman with his sexual libido and charms. Georgio is
attractive, semi-wealthy and has a great loft (which any woman would
have a one night stand with), he makes his own schedule and know how
to entertain and party. As Tony's body heals she realizes she loves
Georgio's free spirit and irresponsibility. He is fun to be with and
hang out with, but his way of life and total lack of responsibility
becomes also the very same reason she hates him when it comes to
their son and they have to get back to real life.
This
was a love/hate relationship story for certain, a story on how a
woman needs a man to remind her how she is loved and beautiful and
needs to makes her feel alive. There is a lot of French culture and
show how open minded and liberal the French are. It also show while
men and woman wants to have fun (and sex), but if they do it
irresponsibly it will always come back to haunt them in the long run.
In the end, the whole story seemed like a middle age woman in a
mid-life crisis story.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image (shot on a newer Son CineAlta
HD camera) and lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix are fine and as good
as they ever will be in this format. Extras include outtakes,
deleted scene, bonus short film and trailers.
