The
Australian coming of age film Girl Asleep (2015), directed by
Rosemary Myers, finds its way onto Blu-ray disc thanks to Umbrella.
Similar in look and tone to Napoleon Dynamite or a Wes
Anderson film (as pointed out on the back cover), the film is quirky
and nicely photographed, with some decent performances by Bethany
Whitmore, Harrison Feldman, Imogen Archer, Tilda Cobham-Hervy, and
Eamon Farren to name a few.
Greta
Driscoll's bubble of obscure loserdom is about to burst burst when
her parents throw her a surprise 15th birthday party and invite the
whole school! Perfectly content being a wallflower, the nonsocial
butterfly Greta must overcome her anxiety and face her peers.
Girl
Asleep is presented in sharp 1080p high definition with a full
frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1 from its RED EPIC HD shoot and a 5.1
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless track that sounds pretty fantastic
for the format. Not quite sure why the filmmakers decided to shoot
the film in fullscreen, but it works with the tone and pacing of the
film fine.
Special
Features include interviews with the cast and crew and a Trailer.
The
film is pretty funny at times but will appear more to those who are a
fan of Juno or other quirky coming of age comedies.
