Train To Busan (2016/Well Go USA Blu-ray)

Picture: A Sound: B Extras: B Film: A-

When a mysterious virus breaks out nationwide in South Korea, a man and his daughter doesn't know it yet, but they just caught the last train out of town. When an infected person gets on the train, slowly each cart is taken over by the undead, and the question is... will there be any survivors by the time they reach the safe zone?

In Sang-yo Yeon's Train To Busan (2016), we get a wide-ranging zombie apocalypse ala World War Z. After a zombie apocalypse occurs, the riders on a bullet train soon realize the horrors of the brave new world they are in. Desperate to reach a safe zone, the riders are forced to do anything to survive. A young father (Yoo Gong) was just taking his daughter (Soo-an Kim) to his ex-wife, he begins to learn the gravity of the situation and how pointless his job, work and values are, especially as compared to his life and the life of his daughter ...and for the first time, he starts to care about someone more than himself.

This was a great zombie film and is a must have for all zombie lovers. The zombies were quickly infected and fast, but they also have their weaknesses. Ironically, what is scary in zombie films isn't the zombies, but the humans/survivors ...and what they will do to survive (get rid of the CEOs, leaders and lawyers and you can save 50% of your party). This may even remind some of the recent Snowpiercer to some extent, or the classic Horror Express (reviewed on restored Blu-ray elsewhere on this site).

The 1080p 1.85 X 1 digital High Definition image is a fine, stylized-for-the-genre digital shoot that keeps its atmosphere going and is a pleasure to watch, while the Korean DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 7.1 lossless mix (better than the dubbed, passable English DTS-MA 5.1 mix also included) may not be always as stunning, but is strong and solid for such a genre work. Extras include a Behind the Scenes featurette, That's a Wrap featurette and trailers.
