Call

When
a spoiled son of a corrupt warlord murders 3 villagers and is
arrested and sentenced to death, he threatens to destroy the town and
kill everyone unless he is released with all charges dropped. While
the sheriff wants to keep the law and justice, the townsfolk wants to
release him than face the wrath of the warlord's army in Benny Chan's
Call Of Heroes (2016).
Set
in ancient China and in a time when warlords ruled over the peasants,
the warlords do and take whatever they want by force. A small
village is threaten with complete destruction unless they do as the
warlord says, as the warlords are always above the law and beyond
reproach. However, between the sheriff, his deputies/town guards,
and a wandering vagabond, they must prove to the frightened villagers
that somethings are worth fighting for.
This
is a martial arts-filled movie while it has a few comical moments,
the story/plot remind me of the story of Kurosawa'a The Seven
Samurai in a good way, warriors protecting a small innocent
village from a group of evil bandits. Sammo Hung and Eddie Peng lead
the cast.
The
1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image is a remarkable HD
shoot, looking fine with nice depth and detail not spoiled by any bad
editing, while the Cantonese DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless
sound is excellent if not as spectacular, but has a fine, consistent
soundfield. This is a good mixdown from the 11.1 Dolby Atmos
theatrical soundmaster, but one wishes we had that soundtrack here
too. Trailers and a Behind The Scenes featurette are the only
extras.
