Director
Thommy Hutson (who also wrote a fantastic retrospective book on the
Nightmare on Elm Street franchise called Never Sleep Again
that became a documentary, reviewed elsewhere on this site) brings us
this first intense feature film entitled The Id (2015)
starring Amanda Wyss (Tina from the original Nightmare on Elm
Street) and Patrick Peduto, who both steal the show here. For
being a low budget film, the tense writing and pitch perfect
performances shine through pretty strong as most of the film takes
place primarily in one location. I would definitely suggest giving
this a watch for any fans of thrillers or horror films.
Meredith
Lane (Wyss) lives a simple life taking care of her elderly father
(Peduto), who isn't exactly kind to her. Her suppressed feelings
start to take surface as a figure from her past makes a reappearance
and asks her on a date. Trapped within the home for decades
virtually, this ounce of freedom intrigues Meredith but is soon
diminished by her father. Lashing out against him for the first time
in her life, she is soon pitted against not only him but others who
threaten to focus her blurred lines between fantasy as reality.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and
a nice sounding, but lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks
and sounds good enough on Blu-ray disc considering its low budget
production. The color correction is subtle but effective with scenes
taking place in fantasies more trippy than the more normal reality
she lives in.
