There
have been a slew of successful comic book adaptations for the small
screen as well as in movie theaters, though none have been as adult
and wickedly violent as Preacher. Produced and Directed by
Seth Rogen (yes, the actor) and Director Evan Goldberg (his longtime
writing partner on films like This is the End and Superbad),
the show stars Dominic Cooper (Captain America, Dracula
Untold, Warcraft) as our lead star Jesse Custer, rising
star Ruth Negga (World War Z, Color Me Kubrick,
Warcraft), and Joe Gilgun (This Is England, Harry
Brown) as Cassidy - an odd Vampire like you've never seen before
along with a cast other colorful characters.
Jesse
Custer has a dark past associated with Tulip O'Hare (Negga) that only
the two of them are completely familiar. Turning away from his
villainous former self, Custer poses as a small Texas town Preacher
and helps restore faith to the struggling community. But when Tulip
comes to confront Custer about some unfinished business, many other
shocking revelations come to light and we discover that Custer has
some unique and ungodly powers that are not considered normal -
includes those linked to Hell and the Devil himself.
Ten
episodes make up Season One with the Pilot, See, The
Possibilities, Monster Swamp, South Will Rise Again, Sundowner, He
Gone, El Valero, Finish the Song, and Call and Response -
the season finale. These episodes span three Blu-ray discs in
length.
Presented
in glorious 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of
1.78:1, there is a vast improvement in the show's television
broadcast as to what we get to see on these discs. Much of the show
takes place in the yellow colored desert, but every inch here is rich
and detailed. As for the sound mix, which is also a huge improvement
over the original broadcast, we get a DTS-HD (MA) Master Audio 5.1
lossless track on each episode that sounds pretty great - equaling
the dialogue and action sequences to give your home entertainment
system a workout. A Digital Copy is also included.

Renewed
for a second season on the AMC Network, the show pushes the
boundaries of violence allowed only cable television by bringing the
comic to life, with a great cast and crew behind the lens. Very
excited to see where the show goes from here!
