Feed The Beast: Season One (2016/Lionsgate DVD Set)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: A Episodes: B+

Tommy and Dion have been best friends since they were kids, and with Tommy's wife Rie, they have been dreaming of opening a restaurant in the heart of the Bronx. But after Rie's death, Tommy is in depression along with his mute son. Dion was recently released from prison attempts to turn things around and realize their dreams. But in the heart of the Bronx they are surrounded by vultures and sharks, corrupt cops and mobsters Dion owes money to in Feed The Beast: Season One (2016).

Dion is a master chef with a drug problem, he has former ties with the mob and owes them 60 grand. His only hope is to work with his former best friend Tommy to build a successful high-end restaurant in the middle of the Bronx, the most violent and criminal part of the city. However, Tommy and his restaurant have been in mourning since his wife died, and his son TJ has not spoken a word since his mother's death. Dion attempts to rebuild their dream restaurant and does anything to help build up their restaurant Therio and doesn't care if it is legal or not. Tommy because of his depression he has become failure of a father, he is an alcoholic sommelier who failed to see his son is getting bullied in school and then finds out Dion had slept with his deceased wife.

Even gangsters like to eat high society food. This series was a little slow on starting up, it is about cooking good food and the mob, but at times it made me question if the series was trying to be a serious drama ...or a serious comedy (but then what do I know of the criminal world)? David Schimmer and Jim Sturgess lead the cast.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image and lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 on each episode are as good as they are going to get. Extras include Fate, Friendship and Food: Crafting of Season One, the Food Under the Fancy, Building the Beast, commentaries, deleted scenes, a gag reel and trailers.
