Most
people have been the subject to bullying during their teen years in
school, but some have definitely got it worse than others. This
theme is highlighted in the new film, Amy S. Weber's A
Girl Like Her
(2015), directed by Amy S. Weber, has pits a teen named Jessica (Lexi
Ainsworth) against the hot popular girl Avery (Hunter King) - both of
which are at odds with one another. When nobody believes Jessica,
she enlists the help of a friend (Jimmy Bennett) to hide a hidden
camera on her so that Avery can be exposed.
Using
the trope of faux documentary filmmaking, the film goes to great
lengths to show the trials and tribulations of growing up in today's
high school reality (where social media is now prevalent) and serves
as a PSA almost. There are many instances in the film that weight it
down, where the drama goes a bit too far, and gets more and more
unbelievable as it strides to its climax.
Presented
in standard definition DVD with a widescreen anamorphically enhanced
aspect ratio of 1.77:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film
looks and sounds fine for DVD but has some room for improvement. For
a film of this nature though, it's not necessarily benefitting too
much from more texture and detail.

While
possibly relatable to a younger audience, there isn't much joy in
watching the film for an older one. If you want to lecture your kid
on bullying, here's one to watch.
