The Neon Dead (2015/Wild Eye DVD)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: B Film: C

Torey Haas' The Neon Dead (2015) is a colorful low budget horror flick that borrows heavily from popular films in the genre like Ghostbusters, Suspiria, The Purge, and The Evil Dead films, but really isn't anything special or new that we haven't seen before. The acting is pretty atrocious and much of the charm to the cinematography is in its elaborate color schemes (no doubt doctored up in post.) The film stars Marie Barker, Greg Garrison, D. Dylan Schettina, and Emma Greene to name a few.

The story centers around a cute college grad (Barker) who has to hire some freelance paranormal exterminators to help take care of a monster infestation of neon-colored ghouls that infest any person they come in contact with. It's up to a few sole survivors to defeat the evil undead and come out alive in the end.

The presentation on the disc is fine for DVD with a widescreen anamorphically enhanced aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo surround (Pro Logic) track that looks and sounds about as good as it can in standard definition. The film shines primarily in its night scenes where the neon-colored characters are prevalent.
