Jeff
Baena's 2016 drama/comedy Joshy stars Silicon Valley
star Thomas Middleditch and a cast of other funny comedians including
Adam Pally, Alison Brie, Alex Ross Pretty, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman,
and Jenny Slate to name a few. The film centers on male bonding,
friendship, and a weekend of fun and debauchery that attempts to
stomp out depression amongst a group of friends.
Joshy
(MIddleditch) comes home one day to find his wife-to-be (Brie) has
committed suicide! Four months later, Joshy's friends plan a weekend
getaway to Ojai, California where they let loose and have a wild
weekend where they address personal conflicts, funny stories, and
take life by the horns. While the film has some funny moments, it
seems to mainly be comprised of improv with some scenes trying a bit
too hard to press at humor and other moments too depressing and
'real'.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and
a sharp, English DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track, the
film looks and sounds great on Blu-ray disc and comes with Digital
Copy. Special Features include an Audio Commentary with
writer/director Jeff Baena, Adam Pally, and Thomas Middleditch.
Attempting
to be a Judd Apatow and/or Kevin Smith-style comedy, Joshy has
some funny moments but ultimately feels like a one time watch.
