Filled
with pretty faces and outlandish party humor, the 2016 Jake
Szymanski-directed Mike
and Dave Need Wedding Dates
(2016) lands on disc in two sets we're looking at here to bring the
party into your living room. Aimed at the sort of crowd that enjoys
Dirty
Grandpa
and Neighbors,
the film features an all-star cast including Zac Efron, Anna
Kendrick, Adam Devine, and Aubrey Plaza to name a few.
Mike
and Dave (Efron and Devine) seem to always be the two that ruin
family gatherings with mayhem and over the top partying. When their
family gives them an intervention, the two boys have to find wedding
dates so that their eyes don't go wandering during the ceremony and
they stay in line. But when they end up finding two dysfunctional
ladies (Kendrick and Plaza), they soon find that they have met their
match. You can pretty much figure out what to expect from there.
The
2160p HEVC/H.265, HDR (10; Ultra HD Premium)-enhanced Ultra High
Definition image on the 4K version of the film is hardly the best
demo disc in the format, with the outdoor footage that stops this
from looking like a sitcom kicking in to just put this narrowly above
the 1080p regular Blu-ray in both sets, digital High Definition with
a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1. Thus, you don't get much of an
improvement, but less fatigue viewing it 4K versus 1080p, almost by
default, yet both have decently recorded, lossless DTS-HD Master
Audio 7.1 lossless tracks that offer some good recording and dynamic
range for a joke-based production.
A
DVD is also included is a standard definition DVD with an anamorphic
widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track
that looks and sounds fine for DVD but doesn't compare to the 4K or
1080p high definition presentations.
