Creem Presents NRBQ –
One In A Million (Concert)
Picture: C+
Sound: B- Extras: D Concert: C+
In what is a throwback at least half way, the band NRBQ
feels more like a 1970s Pop/Rock band than one from the late 1980s, but 1989 is
when this concert was videotaped. Fans
and some critics swear by them, but I was not as impressed. Maybe One In A Million is not the
best example of their work, but with their slight Country leaning and Cheap
Trick-like theatrics, they are at least in it for the fun. The songs are:
1) I Got A
Rocket In My Pocket
2) Girl
Scout Cookies
3) It’s A
Wild Weekend
4) Little
Floater
5) You’re
So Beautiful
6) 12 Bar
Blues
7) Crazy
Like a Fox
8) Here
Comes Terry
9) Shake,
Rattle & Roll
Well, they were consistent, if not catchy and some of the
on camera antics felt like the earliest of Music Videos in the best way. This may appeal to some, but it is
limited. This is also true of the
analog NTSC 1.33 X 1 full screen image on the DVD, with some lack of definition
and even color bleeding. The sound is here
in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono and 5.1 remix with very little subwoofer action,
showing the age and circumstances of the recording. The only extras are a slide show set to one of their songs and
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 2001 Music Video for Dummy, but that will make fans
pleased if no one else. NRQB - One
In A Million is for those who might want to risk seeing something a bit
retro, or something like that.
