Empire: The Complete Second Season (2015 - 2016/Fox DVD Set)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: A Episodes: A-

Now a big hit, Season 2 of Empire (2015 - 2016) has become the biggest nighttime soap opera hit in decades. Even after being sent to jail by his own family, Lucious Lyon still continues to run the Empire from his jail cell. As his ex-wife Cookie and his son's tries a hostile takeover of Empire Entertainment, Lucious wants to find a true heir to his Empire, but his family is more likely to tear each other apart to get to Lucious' throne. The past begins to catch up to them, Lucious' secrets threaten to destroy the Lyons from within.

Lucious Lyon is the original CEO/President to Empire Entertainment, one of the largest and richest Fortune 500 company in the music industry. Each one of the Lyons are talented musicians/artists and are already wealthy beyond their dreams, but when compared to the throne of the Empire they will do anything to get it, including back stabbing each other. While Lucious attempts to groom his son Jamal to become his heir, his brothers still continue fight each other to gain favor from their father. Cookie, Lucious' ex-wife and her son Hakeem, after failing to take over Empire attempts to start a rival company, Lyon Dynasty. But they only fail to learn there are others who want a piece of Empire's fortune, people who are worst than their father. While Lucious hasn't been always been a good man or good father, he hides dark secrets from the past which have police and FBI hot on their tails., nut Lucious has always done what always needs to be done to protect the family and Empire ...even if it meant getting his hands dirty.

Watching this series was like watching battle of bands between R&B, Hip Hop and Smooth Blues. Empire has more back stabbing, secrets and lies than the TV series Borgias. It is a literal gangsters paradise where one can rise from rags to riches with the right connections. Taraji P. Henson and Terence Howard lead the cast.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image and lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix are as good as they can be for this now-older format, so why no Blu-ray? Extras include uncut music performances, Empire around the Globe: USO Tour, Studio Sessions, Freda Gatz Music Video and The Look of Empire.
