The
2015 German comedy, Nikias Chryssos film Der Bunker, is an odd
inspiration of films by David Lynch or David Cronenberg, but doesn't
quite leave a lasting impression in that same signature way. Shot
beautifully and starring Pit Bukowski, Daniel Fripan, and David
Scheller - the film is an abstract foreign comedy that probably won't
fit the tastes of many Americans due to its extreme and subversive
humor.
A
student (Bukowski) seeks solitude in an unusual bunker-mansion during
a harsh winter so that he can focus on his scientific research.
Welcomed, but only to encounter an odd family that is homeschooling
their child named Klaus in bizarre ways. At times deranged and
absurd, the film is an interesting exploration in the world of modern
German exploitation. Needless to say it is also haunted by the
country's conformist past in the darkest ways.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and
a great sounding German DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless
surround track, the film looks and sounds superb on Blu-ray disc with
little left to be desired in terms of presentation.
