Without
a doubt, one of the most impressive visual spectacles of 2016, Neon
Demon is the new film by Nicholas Winding Rifn (Drive,
Only God Forgives) and is an incredible artistic achievement.
Featuring a great cast including Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves, Jena
Malone, and Christina Hendricks and a stunning soundtrack by Cliff
Martinez, the film shows the dark side of the Los Angeles modeling
scene and carries with it many themes and metaphors, that I'm sure
will be looked upon for years to come. Much like filmmakers Stanley
Kubrick and David Lynch, Refn isn't afraid to push the boundaries
with his artistic sensibilities and craft his own dark style of
filmmaking that goes against traditional Hollywood filmmaking tropes.
Jesse
(Fanning) has something about her beauty that catches the eye of
every photographer she comes across. New to the Los Angeles area and
the tender age of sixteen, Jesse gets a series of good fortune with
many, including a Fashion Agent (Hendricks) and a Makeup Artist Ruby
(Malone), thinking that she has what it takes to make it big.
Although that success comes with the price of jealousy amidst her
Super Model peers and a host of other seedy characters (including
Reeves as a scummy hotel manager) that all are after her blood.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and
a fantastic DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds
fantastic on Blu-ray disc. I wouldn't suggest ever seeing a film
that looks this visually stunning on any lesser format. There is
much detail and texture in the colors that really makes this disc
stand out.

About
the Neon Demon
While
it may not be a film for everyone, it is certainly a cinematic
triumph and has a finale that will stick with you after the credits
roll.
