Therapy For A Vampire (2014/Music Box DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C Film: C+

A delightful horror/comedy from Germany, the 2014 David Ruhm film Therapy For A Vampire has great acting, strong production value, and incredible special effects. The film has a great screenplay and has several nods to classic vampire films and even a touch of Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. At times the film uses the narrative skeleton of Bram Stoker's Dracula a bit too much, but that doesn't get in the way of the entertainment value.

In 1932 Vienna, Dr. Sigmund Freud (Karl Fischer) helps a depressed vampire (Tobias Moretti) who refers to himself as Count, whose 500-year marriage isn't what its used to be. His deadly wife still wants to be reminded of her beauty and yearns to see her reflection in a mirror. Whilst at the same time, an artist and his longtime girlfriend have a fate that intertwines with the Count - to whom he believes the woman is a reincarnation of his long lost love.

Presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and lossy German 5.1 Dolby Digital Track, the film looks and sounds fine for standard def DVD, but would benefit from a cleaner HD transfer.

Special Features include...

Making Of featurette

Gag Reel

A fun watch for fans of horror and romance, I would suggest this film if you're looking an interesting foreign language film in the vampire genre.
