Jack
(Charlie Plummer) is just your average young 15-year-old boy.
Everyday from school, runs from the school bullies, trying to get
with the girl he has a crush on, survive being teenager and looking
out for himself. But when his younger cousin Ben (Cory Nichols)
arrives, the last thing he wants is to take care of someone else.
However, the bullies take Ben as their new toy to play with. For the
first time, he has to think of someone else besides himself. And he
has to question ...what does he really want?
In
Felix Thompson's King Jack (2015), when you are a kid, there
are a few unwritten rules that adults tend to forget about. Kids
don't rat out one another and adults can't always be watching over
them. Jack is a good kid but just born in the wrong place, wrong
time. Brought up in a small town and is the token whipping boy of
the school bullies. The problem with bullies is often they get away
with their bullying because they are popular, bigger, and stronger.
When his younger cousin arrives he realize he is innocent, and that
one day he will have to make a stand ...even if it kills him.
Watching
this movie is a reminder of what life is like through the eyes of
child, the unseen world for adults because the world turns a blind
eye to this. It's a wonder why we don't see more guns in school,
it's because kids feel they need them. In the end it takes courage
to stand up against a bully. Fine film!
The
anamorphically enhanced image and lossy Dolby Digital sound are sadly
average, but maybe a Blu-ray edition would help. Extras includes
trailer, but nothing else, though more would have been nice.
