Crimes

The
1984 erotic thriller Crimes of Passion gets the deluxe
Blu-ray/DVD treatment from Arrow releasing. If you're a fan of the
film, any of its stars or eccentric director Ken Russell, then you
will definitely want to check out this fantastic-looking high
definition restoration that is packed with bonus features and sports
a new 2K transfer of the film. While not without its sexy moments,
the film feels pretty silly and dated in many scenes and not without
moments of predictability. Still for what it is, it is nostalgically
shot and produced in a way that can only be described as the '80s.
Starring
Kathleen Turner, Anthony Perkins, and John Laughlin, the film follows
Turner as a fashion designer by day/prostitute by night - who becomes
entangled with a private detective (Laughlin) and a psychotic priest
(Perkins). As most tales of passion goes, things become increasingly
complicated as both men compete for her perfection with only one
lover coming out on top.
Presented
on both Blu-ray, Crimes of Passion features a new 2K restoration of
the film from its original elements and sports a widescreen transfer
of 1.85:1 and a lossless English Mono 1.0 track that sounds as good
as it can on Blu-ray disc. Also included is the DVD which presents
the film in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect
ratio of 1.85:1 and a English, lossy Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono track
that sounds also fine for the format but not as clear and detailed as
the Blu-ray disc.
