The Martial Arts Kid (2015/Traditionz Entertainment DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C Extras: C Film: C+

Robbie, a young boy, is sent to live with his Aunt Cindy in Florida, but no sooner than he gets there he develops a crush on Rina. But Rina already has a boyfriend (who is the town bully) and beats Robbie up. Determined to win Rina over (and to prove he is worthy), he trains in Martial Arts to fight back against bullies.

Robbie is also a young hot head who after breaking a few laws himself was sent to live with his Aunt. There he learns there are others who are tougher than him and in order to get the girl of his dreams he will have to fight for it. It seems like the entire town are martial artists (and the police are either nowhere or forever on break). Robbie learns martial arts to protect himself and his friends.

This film had actual Martial Arts practitioners and looked like it was filmed in real places, but as someone who study martial arts, martial arts is useful, but hardly true combat for real life. There is no honor or fairness in combat, a gun or knife can mean life or death. In real life, martial arts are not like some Jackie Chan or Jet Li film. Martial Arts does not mean you can become 'ninja', all training does is to help guide people to react to situations, whether it is good or bad is still up to the individual (so don't try this at home kids). In all the film was like a poor knock off Karate Kid as many have said, but others (see below) might find more in it.

The DVD is presented in standard definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a lossy 5.1 surround mix that is on the average side, but a better Blu-ray edition has been issued for those really interested. Extras include commentary with cast and film members, deleted scenes and trailers.
