The Bear & The Doll

Picture: D     Sound: C-     Extras: D     Film: C+

In yet another of her popular fluff films, Brigitte Bardot is Felicia, who loves to have everything money can buy and has been getting just about everything.  Suddenly, she keeps having auto accidents in her Citroen 2CV and meets a man (Jean-Pierre Cassel) who might offer her something more important than material items in The Bear & The Doll (1969), showing extra flair better late than never.

It is fluff in a different way and does not have bad patches like her films from this cycle, but is fluff nevertheless.  I like the look of the film, for what I can see of it in this extremely muddy, worn-down, monochrome analog transfer a few generations down.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is only here in an English dub, which is silly and dated in tone and sonics.  Who knows how good this looked when issued, but has some fun moments and great 1960s Mod clothes and designs.  There are no extras, but until a better copy comes along, this is the only copy on DVD to date of a film worth a look.
