Gerard
Barrett's (Pilgrim Hill) debuts his second feature Glassland
(2014), a dark modern drama that was a hit with the critics last year
(it had high praise at Sundance), which is no surprise as it's the
kind of film that most critics love.
Featuring
stunning cinematography, the film crafts realism from its strong
screenplay and has great performances to back it up by Jack Reynor
(Transformers: Age of Extinction), Toni Collette (The Sixth
Sense), and Will Poulter (Son of Rambow). Mixing a family
drama with some dark thematic elements from Scorsese's Taxi
Driver, the film takes place in Dublin and deals with poverty,
crime, alcoholism, and a son that will do anything it takes for his
mother.
John
(Reynor) is a family man who lives with his alcoholic Mother
(Collette) to whom he struggles to care for. When she has a bad
spill and he has to get her medical help, he struggles to pay the
bills, has to offer up his services to a criminal in order to help
get the money possible to fend for his family and pay their expenses.
Presented
in standard definition with an anamorphic 2.35:1 X 1 widescreen
transfer and a sharp, if lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound track
that pushes the limits of the format.
Extras
