We
Monsters (2015/First Run Features DVD)

Directed
by Sebastian Ko, We Monsters (2015) is a dark yet realistic
drama centering on a mother and father who have to cover up a grisly
crime committed by their disturbed teenage daughter. How this
effects their personal relationships, and how they deal with other
people in not making the crime seem so obvious makes the film
interesting and tension-ridden throughout.
The
filmmaking (specifically the cinematography) is top notch as are the
performances by German actors Mehdi Nebbou, Ulrike C. Tscharre, and
Janina Fautz - all of which are totally believable throughout.
The
film centers around some really interesting themes such as 'violence
begets violence' and will specifically be hard hitting for parents -
who will have to ask themselves what they would do in such a
situation. There are some great moments in the film where the father
almost turns her in but can’t bring himself to do it. How far
would you go for love? I think with the right filmmakers behind it
that this could end up being an interesting film to remake in
America.
Presented
in standard definition with a widescreen anamorphic aspect ratio of
1.85:1 and a German lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track with English
subtitles, the film looks fine on DVD but could benefit from a High
Def. Presentation. No Extras.
A
powerful and recommendable drama, We Monsters will hit you
where it hurts.
