Jarhead
3: The Siege (2016/Universal Blu-ray w/DVD)
Picture:
B+/B- Sound: B+/B- Extras: C+ Film: C
Director
William Kaufman's (The Hit List) third installment is a loose
continuation of the original Jarhead film (reviewed elsewhere
on this site), bringing back stars Dennis Haysbert (Ted 2), as
well as Charlie Weber (90210) and focusing on the modern
horrors that military soldiers face overseas every day.
While
the film doesn't have a huge budget, the locations and production
design look good enough to convey the realism of the subject, though
at the same time feels pretty one dimensional and certainly isn't as
cinematic or thrilling as the first Jarhead film. which was
directed by master visual storyteller Sam Mendes (Skyfall).
Jarhead
3: The Siege also stars Tom Ainsley (The Royals), Erik
Valdez (Graceland), Sasha Jackson (Journey to the Forbidden
Valley), Romeo Miller (Madea's Witness Protection), Joe
Corrigall (Kilo Two Bravo), Hadrian Howard (Sons of
Anarchy), Charlie de Melo (The Interceptor) and Dante
Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender). All are fine in the film
and sell their roles pretty well however none really stand out as
super incredible.
Assigned
to protect a seemingly safe U.S. Embassy in the Middle East, elite
Marine Corporal Evan Albright (Weber) sees a normally run compound
mainly with Military Soldiers in training. Of course this piece
doesn't last long when Middle Eastern terrorists aim at kill an
Embassy informant. Soon the Military soldiers realize that they are
going to need to work together as one to overthrow the incoming
threat.
Presented
in pristine 1080p high definition on Blu-ray disc with a widescreen
aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track
that is more than sufficient. For being a direct to video film,
Universal has done a great job with the transfer here looking just as
good as other blockbuster releases on disc. Also included is the
standard definition DVD in an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of
2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that looks and sounds fine
for the DVD format, plus UltraViolet Copy of the film for your tablet
or smartphone.
Extras
include:
Two
cuts of the film (rated and unrated)

If
you're a fan of modern day military/war films or were a fan of that
first Jarhead film, then you may enjoy this by the numbers
film on the subject.
