Mojin
- treasure hunters who seek ancient treasure/gold, usually surrounded
by ancient (but still lethal) booby traps. A team of Mojin are sent
into ancient tomb in China for the treasure of a lifetime, a
legendary relic said with the power to resurrect/give eternal life.
Problem is, no one has ever returned and it is guarded by the undead
and numerous traps which is on full display in Wuershan's Mojin:
The Lost Legend (2015 aka The Ghouls).
Hu, Wang and
Shirley are treasure hunters (arguably grave robbers); together they
are know as the 'Mojin'. They dive into ancient tombs seeking untold
treasures and are experts in finding and disarming traps (and living
to tell about it). 20 years ago, Hu and Wang barely escaped with
their lives after discovering an secret abandoned military base,
thought to be buried forever, their past comes back to haunt them
when Wang is hired by a company to find the treasure. Hu and Shirley
returns to rescue Wang (grudgingly) only to find if any of them are
to escape they will all have to work together.
This movie was
like Indian Jones meets Tomb Raider mixed with Jackie Chan, as an
evil cult goes after a supernatural treasure with Chinese martial
arts/shenanigans. It was visually mind-blowing with special effects
and CGI in a underground tomb as large as 'Mines of Moria' from Lord
of the Rings. Then it offers much more and we'll stop while were
ahead for you to see for yourself.
The
amazing 1080p digital High Definition image switches from 1.85 X 1 to
2.35 X 1, but that is never a major issue as it holds its superior
playback performance throughout, while the lossless Mandarin DTS-HD
MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix has its moments and a consistent soundfield
throughout, even if the image and as the image impresses that much
more. Extras include a Behind The Scenes featurette, interviews with
actors and trailers.
