For
a modern Western, Jon Cassar's Forsaken (2015) has a pretty
impressive cast including Kiefer Sutherland, Donald Sutherland, Demi
Moore, Brian Cox, and Michael Wincott. They still can't save a
familiar western narrative - a lone gunmen running from his past who
tries to be at peace but is constantly running into the wrong type of
fella that knows just how to push his buttons. Narrative aside, the
film looks and sounds great on Blu-ray disc with some beautiful
cinematography and locations that will be sure to please most Western
fans.
In
1872, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer Sutherland) retires as a gunfighter
and returns to his hometown of Fowler, Wyoming in hope of repairing
his relationship with his estranged father, Reverend Clayton (Donald
Sutherland). However, he soon learns that the town is in turmoil, as
the railroad will be coming through the area and a criminal gang is
terrorizing ranchers who refuse to sell their land. John Henry is
the only one who can stop them, but his father does not want his son
to return to a life of violence.
Presented
in 1080p High Definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and
a crystal clear DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the film
looks and sounds great on Blu-ray disc as close-ups on characters
reveal crisp detail down to the very wrinkle on the face and the
landscapes come across lush and rich in texture. No digital copy
inclusion.
The
only extra is a Making Of featurette.
If
you;re a fan of Westerns and are looking for something new with some
familiar faces, then you may want to check out Forsaken. Will
it be a long-remembered masterpiece? No. But it could entertain you
for 90 minutes.
