Michael
Manasseri's Mosquito
Man
(2014) is a superhero meets monster movie that is decently made, fast
paced, and hilarious. While the digital effects at times are SyFy
Channel-worthy, the cinematography and editing is crisp and
inventive, almost playing out like an Edgar Wright film. This film
was made back in 2011 under a different name, Sucker,
and is just now seeing home video release. I would actually say that
I enjoyed it more than I did James Gunn's Super.
The film co-stars Jordan Trovillion, Kimberley Kates, Monty Bane,
Danny Mooney, and Lloyd Kaufman.
Jim
Crawley (Michael Manasseri) is having a really bad day. He gets
fired from his job, his car is towed and impounded, and he discovers
his wife is having an affair with his arch enemy. To make matters
worse, Jim gets abducted by an evil scientist (Ricky Wayne) who is
conducting illegal human testing on a vaccine against a deadly
mosquito-borne virus spreading across the planet. It turns out that
years of exposure to nuclear radiation and mosquito DNA don't mix
well... Jim transforms into a half man/half mosquito hell bent on
revenge.
The
standard definition transfer is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic
widescreen with a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track. At times, the
transfer is a little chunky and not too detailed and could definitely
benefit to a Blu-ray master.

If
you like B Movies that are over the top and silly, then you will
probably appreciate what Mosquito
Man
has to offer. Just don't expect it to win an Oscar.
