Man
Up is
a romantic comedy starring Simon Pegg and Lake Bell that is charming,
romantic, and pretty funny from the producer of Pegg-led films Hot
Fuzz
and Shaun
of the Dead
(though isn't really like either). The film is written by Tess
Morris and directed by Ben Palmer.
Set
in England, the film centers around a blind date gone awry that
actually ends up being a romantic success story. Similar in some
ways to Before
Sunrise,
in that it centers on a lot of dialogue based scenes that deal in
romantic theory and life stories mixed with several natural
locations, the film is a quick and easy watch. Man
Up is
a great date night movie or could even be used as a basis of
inspiration for the single crowd.
Nancy
(Bell) hasn't had much luck with dating in the recent four years and
happens to find herself on a train one day arguing with her sister on
the phone on the subject. By chance, a woman on the train named
Jessica suggests she reads a self-help book for inspiration, which
also happens to be a call sign for a blind date she is about to go on
thanks to a mutual friend. Falling asleep on the train, Nancy wakes
up to find the book in front of her. Convinced that the book isn't
for her, Nancy seeks out Jessica to give her back the self help book
but ends up bumping into Jack, (Pegg) who mistakes her for Jessica
and the two start going about the blind date. Hitting all the right
marks and realizing they are good for one another, several obstacles
get in their way during the night, putting them both in the hot seat
and forcing them both to 'man up', get over the hurtles in their way,
and find the love they so desire.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a 2.40:1 widescreen aspect ratio and a
vividly clear, lossless English 5.1 DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) track,
the presentation on the disc is flawless and very sharp throughout.
Also included is a digital copy of the film.
Extras
include Gag Reel, Simon and Lake Interview Clips, The Seven Beats of
Man Up Featurettes.
All
in all, Man
Up is
a fun ride and definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of
romantic comedies grounded in realism and fun.
