Four
Warriors (2015) is a low budget attempt at fantasy that feels
derivative of every other Fantasy film ever made. With laughably bad
dialogue and subpar acting, the film feels more like a History
Channel special more than feature film. That aside, the production
value isn't terrible with some pretty nice costumes and shots that
were thought through.
Directed
by Phil Hawkins, this attempt at fantasy is missing the edge it needs
to be memorable. Maybe Phil should watch Game of Thrones and
take some notes. Four battle-weary Crusaders take on a mission to
track down the evil predator who has abducted all the men and
children from a devastated village.
Presented
in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of
2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds
fine for the DVD format but could benefit to a high def upgrade. A
digital copy is also included, but the only extra is a theatrical
trailer.
All
in all, this fantasy entry can be skipped. At this point, to stand
out in this genre, you need a more original story or a more detailed
world with more original characters that aren't afraid to dip into
R-rated territory.
