Joe
Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser: Extended Edition (2015/Sony Blu-ray)

I
recently revisited the original Joe Dirt upon its recent
Blu-ray release (review can be found elsewhere on this site) and
found it to be as funny as it was when it was first released. I
first heard about this un-needed sequel over the summer on a late
night talk show, where David Spade said it would be released first on
Crackle, an online video streaming site and eventually to DVD. Not
being a huge fan of streaming (mainly because I prefer to wait until
high definition), I found that is was not at all worth the wait.
While
many original cast members have returned (Christopher Walken,
Brittany Daniel) and the always funny Patrick Warburton, this hollow
sequel recycles some jokes from the original a lot with an insanely
dumb time travel storyline, and one too many fart jokes.
Directed
by Fred Wolf (Grown Ups, House Bunny) and starring
Spade, this sequel finds Joe Dirt happy with his wife Brandi
(Daniel) and is now the father of three twin girls. Insecure about
his Fatherly role (he doesn't want his daughters to think he's a
loser), he ends up going back in time to the 1960's, where he
encounters some future famous musicians, future serial killers, and
faces from his past and eventually ends up screwing up the space time
continuum. Will he get back to the present and make things right?
The
presentation is up to standards with a lush 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital
high definition transfer and a crisp DTS-HD MA (Master Audio)
lossless 5.1 track that delivers for a comedy and then some. Sony
always does a great job with their high def transfers and this is no
different. Also included is a digital copy of the film.
No
extras aside from the extended version of the film.
