If
you're a fan of the Puppet Master films, Dead Silence,
or Child's Play series, then you will want to check out
director Stuart (Re-Animator) Gordon's Dolls. The 1987
film has seen multiple releases on Blu-ray disc in the past year
worldwide in various regions, with another out under the Shout!
Factory label in the U.S. market. This release pertains to the
superior Umbrella Entertainment edition which has different cover
artwork (too many used the same art elsewhere) and packed with all
new extras that are a must for fans of this cult film.
A
group of motorists, including young Judy Bower (Carrie Lorraine), her
horrible father (Ian Patrick Williams), her evil queen of a
stepmother (Carolyn Purdy-Gordon) and a meek businessman named Ralph
(Stephen Lee), become stranded at a spooky mansion during a nighttime
thunderstorm. The house's strange owners (Guy Rolfe, Hilary Mason)
offer overnight lodgings, but with the dastardly intentions of making
their visitors the playthings of their murderous toy dolls.
The
dolls in this film are pretty creepy and original and are more brutal
in this than other films of its kind. You may wonder when watching
why the humans fall victim to these pint sized menaces so easy, but
if you just prepare your mind for a bit of misbelief then you will
have fun.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and
a rich-for-its-age DTS-HD 5.1 MA (Master Audio) lossless track and a
2.0 Stereo English track, the film plays better than ever on this
Blu-ray restoration (likely the one circulating worldwide) bringing
out the intended color and detail intended,
