The
Austrian import Goodnight
Mommy
(2014) is a beautifully crafted psychological horror film that has
gorgeous cinematography, top notch acting, and a twist that you don't
see coming. The film was written and directed by Sevein Fiala and
Veronika Franz and stars Susanne Wuest, Lukas Schwarz, and Elias
Schwarz.
Twin
boys who do everything together, from collecting beetles to feeding
stray cats and running through corn fields playing hide and seek, but
when they welcome their mother home after her reconstructive surgery
with her face wrapped in bandages, and her demeanor distant, they
grow suspicious of her identity.
Presented
in high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.38:1 and a
crystal clear lossless, German DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track
that doesn’t disappoint despite the quiet parts of the film.
English subtitles also accompany the film.
The
only extra is A
Conversation with Filmmakers Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala,
which is around twelve minutes and sheds some light on the production
of the film.
The
film brings up some interesting psychological personalities with its
characters and is almost more about the characters themselves and
their interactions more than just another genre work.
