Secrets
of a Psychopath (2015) has some interesting ideas but doesn't
quite hit the mark. A low budget production, the film's plot isn't
exactly original (the concept of a woman being lured into some
sinister online) and uses suffocation as a weird sexual theme. The
film is directed by legendary B-movie director Bert I. Gordon (Food
of the Gods, Empire of the Ants, Village of the
Giants).
Still
living in his childhood home, Henry, aided by his older sister
Catherine, sets up online dates for himself in order to finally get
married. His first date with unsophisticated young Grace Borden,
arrives in a cab and soon discovers that Catherine is a stern
possessive woman and Henry is mentally unstable. Visions of her
nudity has a traumatic effect on him.
As
Grace cries hysterically, Henry and Catherine burst into the bridal
chamber dressed as children, tie plastic wrap around Grace's head and
suffocate her to death.
What
led these stunted children to create such death traps is slowly
revealed as they continue to search online for newer potential
brides. Henry meets his match with a new girl named Georgette, the
best friend of one of the victims.
Presented
in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of
1.78:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds
fine on DVD. Oddly enough the menu asks you whether you want the 2.0
audio or the 5.1 one, which I thought was pretty obvious, that is for
older systems or if mixdowns of the 5.1 are a problem.
Extras
include a new interview with Bert L Gordon and a trailer.
If
you're into borderline snuff then this might be up your alley,
otherwise you aren't missing much by not seeing it.
